I suggest everyone give this a shot...
http://public-consultation.org/exercise/
This is a pretty cool exercise. I just fixed the US budget problems, and was able to increase spending on education, environmental protection, and assistance for low income families. All while shoring up social security and increasing benefits. Give it a shot everyone!
Your budget deficit for 2015: Surplus of 221.9B
Percentage of long term social security solved - 125%
TAX THE RICH, TAX THE RICH oh and cut military spending by 80%
Problem solved
Here is my budget:
Reduced spending by 175b$ by cutting defense and secret services by 2/3. Eliminating foreign military aid, large farm subsidies, eliminating foreign economic aid for special interest countries and immediately ending the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Agressively increased spending for all line items across the board including domestic security for the hawks in here and border security but especially forward looking investment type spending in research, education, infrastructure and the environment. Also increased small farm subsidies though I would tie that to organic/sustainable farming practices and eliminate subsidies for all conventional farming.
Increased taxes to the maximum allowable rate in the program for incomes starting at 200k$ while maintaining the tax cuts for the incomes below 200k$. That generated another 280b$ in deficit reduction.
Raised corporate income tax to the maximum allowable rate in the program. That generated another 100b$ in deficit reduction.
While it's peanuts I also raised carried interest taxation and turned it into regular income.
Took the 9b$ risk fee from the banks, together with carried interest that made another 10b$.
Garnered carbon taxation at maximum worth 115b$.
Took in 12b$ on booze tax.
Garnered the 36B$ of maximum soda pop tax (considering how toxic it is and how much it is responsible for the rise of Diabetes, it's a fair tax)
At this point the budget was balanced. Now on to generating a surplus and pay off that Chinese debt.
Garnered 330b$ in surplus for a 10% VAT, would consider reducing it to half of that once the debt is close to being paid off. Rest would go toward increasing forward looking spending on research and education.
Garnered another 20b$ for estate taxation although I would be much more aggressive here than the program. Small to lower mid-size family run companies and small farms would be excluded while the 55% tariff would hit immediately at 500k$. I would eliminate the ability of super-rich people to harbor money through trust funds and socalled charities and living wills.
Either way, I am running a 353b$ surplus with a strong forward looking spending policy.
For social security I increased the contribution by the 0.1% point and included all wages into it. Changed to a flexible COLA calculation and increased entry level benefits. Retirement age remains the same.
50% surplus. Surplus funds would be siphoned off specifically to pay off national debt and then split half and half into a crisis fund for the next recession and the other half into special care provision for the elderly.
Btw. when I say paying off debt I would pay off debt for fed, state and municipalities and write in laws that all levels of government have to balance their budgets and make issue of public debt illegal. Also I would force all levels of government to undergo annual public audits on their spending.
Cheers,
Ahmed

Are you satisfied with your Beats by Dre ?
I wasn't the original poster, but I've got a pair of these too and love them. The sound is phenomenal, however I have a big head (apparently) and they are a little tight.

Why the **** would Apple ever pre-install Windows on a Mac.
If they went that route then they might as well just cancel all develop on OS X, because they would need that money to pay Microsoft.
I honestly feel that Boot Camp is one of the worst things that Apple could ever do, but they had to appease the little kids. But just wait until the first virus hits your Windows partition and screws up the boot sector of your drive and you're unable to start either OS.
God, some people!
Your windows installation will not hurt your OSX installation.
They don't see eeach other, and windows is on a seperate partition.
Stop calling people a moron if you don't know what you are talking about.
Boot camp basically eliminated the need to ever buy a PC.
It was an incredibly smart move.

Same manufacturer does not mean the same battery. Apple designed their battery from scratch, no other computer manufacturer uses the same battery as Apple. I'm floored at how fast it charges, how long it lasts, and how little charge its lost (its at 90% after 9 months and 172 cycles).
I'll call BS on that.
Apple does not design their own batteries. The casing perhaps, but not the core.
They spec them to a vendor. Then vendor does the actual design work.
As for performance, my Dell battery goes from 5% to full charge in a little over an hour.
Not bad in my book.
Hell the battery in my ThinkPad T410 goes from dead to full charge 30 to 45 minutes. And that thing is a monster.
The stock 6 cell last roughly 6 hours (kept it as a spare) and the 9 cell lasts over 11.

$239 for a bloated DRM infested OS is outrageous.
I've tried several Vista betas and IMHO it's a pile of crap. It's arguably the largest (unecessary) resource hog of an OS that I've ever seen.
I see more visual effects in OSX and it's 10000000x easier on a computer. For crying out loud, OSX runs on G3s. 6+ year old computers. On the other side of the coin I guarantee you that you won't see Vista running on a Pentium 3...ever.
Microsoft is dropping the ball with Vista big time. 6 skus (3 for home users, 3 for businesses), ridiculous hardware requirements, and this pricing is the icing on the cake.
I'll stick with the 1-2 combo of XP and Win2k for my Windows computing; thanks for offering though, Redmond. Try again.

when are people going to learn that a high quality sensor at 5mp is better than an average one at 8mp...
higher numbers are stupid if the sensor isnt up to it..
the iphone doesnt have a massive sensor, so please apple give me a really high quality one instead of just bumping up the numbers to make it look good on a spec sheet.

My girlfriends MacBook, runs at 15 degrees C pretty much all the time.
Here is a screen shot,
Rich.
FWIW, 15C = 59F. I've never heard of a processor running that low. Maybe it does, but that sounds really really odd.

Either scalpers have swooped in or there are a lot more geeks that just want to attend the conference.
I was seriously disappointed when I attended last years one, the Apple engineers couldn't answer either of my questions, the presentations only reaffirmed what I already knew or pointed to documentation / demo code that every developer got for free anyway.
If you are a serious developer and want to attend the conference to actually learn its a serious disappointment. But I guess most conferences are just to network and geek it up which is why it sold out I guess.

I was talking about the new ones aswell  the refurb shop also sells stock they want to get rid of and that includes old macbooks.
How do you know that you are going to get a new one and not a refurbished one. And what old macbooks are you talking about, they didnt release any new ones yet. Thanks for the help.

Keep in mind Toys R' Us does not support the US Constitution, specifically the 2nd Amendment. While they are a private business and can say what is or isn't permitted in their stores, I will not patronize businesses that infringe upon my rights as an American citizen.

I was able to install the firmware update without any problems - to an external USB boot drive noless :p
Is that possible? You're booting from an external and applying the firmware update to your mac right?

There's zero incentive for Apple to do that. They're in the business of making $$. If they made a phone, and supported it for 5 - 7 years, no one would buy new ones, therefore no revenue. It's all about making cash...
Plus, a phone going on 3 plus years is pretty good. You got you money's worth. Sell it on E Bay-or Craigslist, and make some cash. Or like you said, an iPod.
Please bear in mind that Apple were still selling the iPhone 3G in May last year, less than a year ago!

I think the question of fault is moot, if there is a security problem it needs to be fixed, and if it is a simple fix, that happens before any real life security problems occur, then all the better! What I wonder is are macbooks the only macs with the issue, or only intel macs with wireless cards, or all models using a wireless card. -for example would my powerbook g4 be vulnerable.

Bringing them both to the same level creates the same problem Apple used to have... many (including myself) can easily justify getting MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro because the MacBook does everything you need the Pro version to do.
Sigh. The MBP offers a lot more than a faster CPU. Larger screen, dedicated GPU, better I/O, backlit keyboard to mention a few things. The MBP is a portable workstation and the MB is a notebook.

Jobs' brilliance shines through in this interview. Keep the hits coming Steve!
He's so good, he makes their "killer" feature, wireless sharing, sound dork-tastic!
All the while making listenign together sexy as hell.
You go girl!
Yeah, after I read it, I was like "that man is a marketing genius!".

Don't worry about the formatting, it's just a hard drive, they're all standard.
If it is an external, just plug it in, open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select the new drive from the list on the left, select the "Erase" tab at the top, and "erase" it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
Thanks, you saved me a lot of stress. After reading the specs and seeing it was for PC's only, I tried to cancel the order. Sorry, I'm not a tech guru. But why would they state something like that and possibly limit their sales, when all they have to say is it can be formatted to whatever system you have?

Well the cabinet that is under my macbook pro i rebuilt it cause it was the outer case to a old electric heater that looked like a fireplace that went out. i put a shelf in it and a floor then a back stuck my time capsule and my external hd in it so its all nice and neat. what do you guys recommend for cable management as mine is crazy with cables thought about using wire ties and bundling them together
