Back in the final days of Logic Pro 7 I was considering buying it. It was incredibly powerful but really deep and with a clunky GUI to boot. My procrastination paid off.
Within months Logic Pro 8 came out and they simplified the GUI to be like GarageBand (and oh how all the "Pros" did moan...but only for awhile) and cut the price from $999 to $499. I jumped on it and never looked back.
And now the same sort of thing is happening to FCP. All the power (fingers crossed) but with a much better GUI (yes, sort of like iMovie but only on the surface....just like with Logic Pro and Garageband).
Jumping into this will be a no-brainer for me whereas with the old FCP I would have never "bit".
Give the "Pros" time to come around. A lot of the resistance evaporates over time. Yes, there are actually some people who like difficult programs because then they join the "priesthood" of "those in the know" and get all puffed up.
"BUT BUT BUT...IT LOOKS...DIFFERENT!!!!"
I WON'T BUY IT....I WON'T BUY IT....I WON'T I WON'T I WON'T.

I can see many benefits to develop from this. Maybe not on an iMac, but a larger iPad with iMac or Mac Pro power from a designing stand point.
Yes, keep the use of a mouse and/or keyboard for the comfort side of things. But when it comes to intricate design, a mouse is just a pain to use. A Wacom tablet has been around a while and some still use it, but you're pretty much drawing blind folded. If you could use a type of stylus or a finger and draw/edit directly on the screen that would make detail work sooooo much easier and faster.
I think this is a good direction. Who says the iMac will still be a desktop monitor/computer? It could be like the iPad maybe with a popout easel for use as a freestanding monitor (maybe not as cheesy as that, but you get the picture), while still keeping your "all in one" desktop component.
I wonder if part of the problem is that the price of a touch screen that is sensitive enough for drawing application is to high a price and not needed in mass market device.
I kind of wonder if there could be an accessory Stylus that has it's own tracking system so that plays off the touch screen sensor to establish start end end location but feeds the system far more detailed drawing information from it's own measurements including maybe till and pressure.
That way only applications that need the extra function have to pay for it.

I'm stopping at the Apple Store after work to (hopefully) get the 8GB. I wish it came in other colors. I really like the pink and the green.
Can't wait to plug my Shure E500s into something new. :)
It'll be sad to retire my old black 4GB, as it's almost reach the zenith of scratchedness -- where you can barely read text on the screen. It will now join the others in my iPod "Museum".
Still waiting for the regular iPod with full-coverage touch screen and virtual control wheel. ;)

Lol @ the hoax.
That said, I wish there were rumors about the white MacBook. I mean, there's been updates this soon before. The current model isn't too bad, though. :)

here's some of my speculation about this update...
While we don't know exactly how the Firmware update was designed, it would appear as though the update could simply ignore symptoms of a SMC short circuit to allow the laptop to continue operating. If this is the case it may degrade a MacBook's ability to detect true over-heat situations.
AppleInsider had previously reported that a new MacBook logic board was under development to eliminate the root hardware issue, but a release date was not known.

I don't live in the USA, I'm from the Netherlands. Philips is a Dutch company, so here in the Netherlands you can buy it everywhere.
Thanks, I live in the UK so should be able to find it locally.

Apple needs to get over their trip on Adobe and do what's best for their customers! As somebody who absolutely loves Apple and their products...I find some of their decisions very strange and frustrating.

My mom got her iphone last year. She loves it so much she's been totally into apple stuff (bought herself an ipod touch when it came out - don't ask me when she already has an iphone - and even bought me the new nano).
She says she's probably going to buy a Mac next time (and she used to snub the mac when I was a kid).

A new 24-inch iMac with a brilliant 24-inch widescreen display joins the 17- and 20-inch models, and iMac prices now start at just $999</p>
In case you guys were wondering (I had to search around a little), the res on the 24"er is 1900x1200.

With newspaper profits tanking, this may be the way to resurrect the American newspaper. Grab your iPod off the dock in the morning and read the Times on your iPod while you're sitting on the train.

I'm not really fussed about touchscreen imacs but it does all add up. The magic pad for all the Macs without the touch-screen.. Ability to run iOS much like you currently run Dashboard, but much, much cooler..
From a gaming perspective it'd add a hell of a lot of value to the Mac platform.. Various other little apps would be cute additions too.
If they do it well it could offer big added value, and wouldn't signify anything in terms of "the end of the Mac platform" How many people aren't going to get iPhones but DO have Macs? Quite a lot.. How much iTunes store iOS software could Apple sell to those people? Quite a lot, I'd imagine! I'd certainly not mind the chance to play around with iphone software across the desktop too.
I would be very surprised if this sort of thing happens so soon though.

Does anyone else find it strange/ridiculous that AirPort Express and Bluetooth come standard on every system except the high end Mac Pro?No I find that personally reasonable. How often are you going to be moving around your desktop? Many companies would not allow them in the building with those features. The upgrade price is reasonable.

That is wonderfully quotable.
Interesting rumor, who knows if really true. 3D just isn't that widely accepted yet. I have enjoyed looking at some of the 3D TVs at Best Buy very much, but I wouldn't buy one!

Sorry to ask such basic questions, but I can't get the video to play through our firewall... Do they explicitly show an external WiFi card plugged into the slot?
Yes...he holds it up and then sticks it into the slot.

With the 5th anniversary of the iPod, Newsweek spoke with Steve Jobs (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/15262121/site/newsweek/) about the iPod, iTunes Store and Zune as a potential threat.
According to Jobs, one major reason for the iPod's success was its relative simplicity:

I actually like the idea of wireless communication on iPods. They could do it exactly like "sharing"in iTunes. Imagine you sitting somewhere in the underground or bus, taking out your iPod, checking "other iPods" on the main menu, browsing through the playlist and thinking: "hey, this guy/girl has a good music taste". You could see what she/he's listening to ("now playing") and listen to it. And if you see the other person rocking his head to the same song you're hearing, you know it's the right one. And if this person happens to share it's profile (contact information), you can get the phone number etc...
That sounds like it makes more sense than Zuneing a song. Instead of somebody asking "do you want to listen to this song" and maybe the person is annoyingly persistent about you listening to it to the point where you want to clock him one for not leaving you alone, the person can look on another person's iPod himself if he so desires and if the other guy has sharing on. If Apple makes iPod sharing exactly the same as iTunes sharing, and figures out a way to keep the battery life up, then that's what people would want to get.

Gestures still function on iPad?
Yes, it does.
For whom doesn't understand what we are talkin' about: There is a way to enable 4~5 fingers gesture function which is allowed only for developers. Purchase Xcode($4.99) from Mac App Store, install it, connect the iPad to the USB port and Xcode will recognize your iPad and there is a button asks you to use this iPad for development purpose. Click it and it will ask your developer ID but you can simply click cancel, it will anyway continue the procedure to enable the function. After that, go to the preference - general on you iPad, you will get to see the option for the 4~5 fingers gesture. I personally think, it is worth more than $5.

I have been wanting to move from Windows to an Imac, but I was looking to join up with Apple finally moving to more competitive machines in terms of speed. With the Merom being Apple's choice instead of the more upgradeable Conroe I am wondering what we will all be thinking 6 or 8 months from now when Windows will be running on potentially 4 core machines while we are all stuck with 2 and no headroom. Probably not a concern for current Mac devotees that see the OS as plenty of reason to stick with Apple, but in my mind, instead of the first generation of "faster" Macs we may be buying into just another generation of Macs that run significantly behind the power curve.
